Audit Technical Assurance Across One of Europe’s Largest Infrastructure Programmes
Are you an experienced auditor or engineering professional who understands how technical work should be checked, verified and evidenced?
Would you like to apply your audit skills across major infrastructure contracts, ensuring that contractors follow the correct technical assurance processes and can demonstrate that their engineering work meets the required standards?
High Speed Two Ltd is recruiting two Technical Assurance Auditors to join its specialist team, with one position based in London and one in Birmingham.
Working across HS2’s 19 major delivery contracts, you will plan and conduct Technical Assurance Reviews of Tier 1 contractors, assess whether the correct processes are being followed and ensure findings are recorded, reported and resolved.
This is an opportunity to work across one of the UK’s most significant infrastructure programmes, influencing how technical assurance is applied consistently across civils, stations and Rail Systems.
The Opportunity
HS2 operates a self assurance model, meaning contractors are responsible for assuring their own engineering work. Your role is to check that their assurance processes are appropriate, consistently applied and supported by the evidence needed to demonstrate compliance.
This is specifically a technical assurance auditing role, rather than a traditional Quality Assurance position. You will focus on whether the right technical checks are being carried out, whether requirements and standards are being applied correctly, and whether the evidence supports the conclusions reached.
You will manage the review process from planning and preparation through to reporting and closeout of corrective actions. You will also analyse findings and performance data to identify recurring issues, target future reviews according to risk and feed lessons back into HS2’s technical processes.
The role offers broad exposure across multiple contracts and engineering disciplines, working with contractors, technical specialists and HS2 process owners.
What You Will Do
About You
We are open to experienced auditors as well as candidates looking to take the next step in their careers.
You might already work in Technical Assurance, audit or compliance, or you could be an engineer or project professional who has gained experience reviewing technical processes, checking compliance and evidencing engineering requirements.
We are particularly interested in people who understand how assurance works within major, multidisciplinary projects and can apply an objective, structured approach to reviewing how contractors operate.
You will be confident chairing reviews, engaging with technical teams, recording findings and following actions through to completion. Strong data analysis and reporting skills are important, as you will be responsible for reporting on review performance across your allocated contracts.
You do not necessarily need extensive experience as a Lead Auditor, but you should have a sound understanding of audit principles and be prepared to develop further within a specialist technical assurance environment.

With approximately 10 years of programme work ahead and exposure across 19 contracts, the role offers a substantial platform for professional development.
