My client are a reputable main contractor and a leader within the UK construction market. They currently have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Structural Engineer to join their midlands based team on a permanent basis.
As the successful candidate, your role will be to provide support the Technical Manager. You will be involved on a number of high-profile projects with values of £40million and upwards, as such, my client is seeking individuals with experience of working on major UK construction projects.
Role Responsibilities:
Working with the bid and operations team to develop alternative solutions through value engineering.
Attending design, tender strategy and tender finalisation to support the Design and Build/PFI bid process.
Advising on adequacy and sufficiency of tender designs. Initiating and encouraging innovation and alternative designs.
Working closely with retained designers to deliver optimum solutions to satisfy clients.
Agreeing with Proposal Managers the scope of design service to be provided on tenders and in contracts; advising on and agreeing fees; providing information for the completion of preliminary forms.
Assisting the Commercial Department with completion of design commissions by providing information as necessary.
Advising on all design and statutory fees to be included in bids.
Providing technical support to marketing in the form of responses to prequalification questionnaires; preparing and delivering presentations as required.
Supporting and standing in if required for the Technical Manager, Proposals Managers / Design Managers.
The Successful candidate will have the following:
A sound knowledge of steel, concrete and masonry design.
Experience in value engineering of structural designs.
Good communication skills, both written and verbal and an ability to liaise with multiple project stakeholders.
A strong working knowledge of MS Office and other specialist structural design software.
Relevant CSCS qualification.
Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or similar). HND/HNC may be considered with relevant experience.
The ability to independently perform structural elemental calculations for steel, concrete, timber and masonry, including superstructure and foundations.
A good knowledge of conceptual design.
Knowledge of drainage and basic geotechnics.
