Our client in Northampton is looking for a skilled and enthusiastic individual with excellent commercial awareness and a driven personality to join the business in a Company Accountant position like no other.
This role is central to the continued success of this engineering business, as the existing individual has been in place throughout the company’s existence and is now looking to reduce their hours, so the role has come about as a result of their desire to find the right individual to take over long term in this pivotal position in the business.
The duties are focused at their core on being a Company Accountant, however in addition to standard expected duties of such a position then the role does also require someone to have excellent commercial awareness and a willingness and desire to be involved in areas of business strategy, compliance, health and safety and regulation supervision amongst others.
There is a small team of personnel in the accounts department who will be supporting the successful individual, and the role will include supervision of these individuals and you would be reporting solely to the directors of the business.
Duties will include:
Financial accounts including year end and audits
Management accounts including the supervision and training of an Assistant Management Accountant (AMA)
Completion of management accounts and month end schedules not completed by the AMA
Fixed Asset Register
Stock accuracy, valuation and obsolescence
Contracts for hire, and cross-hire including timesheets and invoices
Forecasting of invoice values and running of hire invoices using a computerised hire system
Cashflow management including responsibility of bank accounts, supervision of cashbooks and authorisation or payment runs
Euro purchases and forward contracts
Authorising of credit cards and cash expenses
Government returns and liaising in an official capacity to varies industry bodies
Responsibility for VAT return
Overseeing the paying of subcontractors and submitting of CIS returns
Credit control co-ordination, supervision of staff and involvement as required
Authorisation of purchases
Reviewing of ledgers
Checking of pricing on sales invoices and works orders
Overseeing accounts staff collation of working hours and payroll of personnel including hourly and salary payments, as well as the administration and submission of data to the pension fund
Other duties also include:
Understanding, checking and upgrading where necessary or hire system and software, and raising computer issues as required
Maintaining company policies in accordance with FORS requirements, and the supervision in collecting of data on works vans including fuel consumption and running costs
Supply chain accreditation and paperwork
Annual insurances renewal and supply of information to the hire department on insurance values as well as dealing with insurance claims
Export / import matters as required in the business in line with specific projects and client work
Hire purchase and other finance agreements for assets
Rental management and periodic overhead review
Managing of Health and Safety to ensure compliance with legislation, and ensuring all staff have appropriate PPE and that it is fit for purpose
Ensuring all staff training and qualifications are complete, up to date and scheduled testing is in place where required

To be considered for the role you will need to be:
A fully qualified accountant
Experienced in working as an in house Company Accountant
Commercially aware and with demonstrable experience as an individual with responsibility for a wider range of business requirements outside of a standard accountancy position
Northampton(shire) based and able to reach the client site easily on a daily basis
Driven and enthusiastic about taking on a pivotal role in an established and continually developing business
